With the announcement of Queen Elizabeth II‘s death, King Charles III, the late Queen’s first child, was automatically crowned as the new head of the British monarchy.
Since his accession ceremony, King Charles III has been a constant topic of public discussion. Finally, one of the unique facts about the King was revealed. Even though his faith is Christian, King Charles III surprisingly had broadly positive views about Islam.
This was revealed by the author Robert Jobson in his book “Charles At Seventy: Thoughts, Hopes, and Dreams.” Jobson, also a Royal expert, noted that the King had studied Islam’s holiest book, the Holy Quran.
In his speech at the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies in 2010, Charles conveyed his views on environmental issues and climate change based on his knowledge of Islam and the Holy Quran. He said Islam had taught him that there are limits in the abundance of nature and that if his understanding of the Quran is correct, Muslims are commanded not to violate it.
He added that Islam teaches that we live side by side with other living beings on this planet, and ignoring that lesson means we have violated our contract with Creation.
King Charles’ extraordinary attention to Islam was also reflected during his 2006 visit to Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. On that occasion, Charles criticized publishing a 2005 Danish cartoon mocking the Prophet Muhammad. Instead, he called on everyone to respect the beliefs of others.
In the holy month of Ramadan this year, King Charles III, who at that time was still the Prince of Wales, also passed a statement to greet the Muslims around the world.
Charles has long been recognized as a world figure who advocates for bringing the Muslim world and the West closer together, where he says there are many misconceptions about Islam in the West. Charles warned that extremism should not be seen as a hallmark of Islam.
